Texts on My Mind This Week – September 13, 2021

This weekly post is a spot for me to list what texts have been tumbling around in my mind and share a few quick notes about each.

What White People Can Do Next: From Allyship to Coalition – Emma Dabiri

Emma Dabiri’s book doesn’t hold back regarding exactly what the title states – what white people can do next in order to move beyond allyship and into coalition.

Note: I received a copy of this book courtesy of Harper Perennial.

Seedfolks – Paul Fleischman

My favorite way to kick off one of my other freshmen courses is with Seedfolks. We are early on in the collection of stories and trying to make sense of everything going on with the varying viewpoints.

Goodreads

A Raisin in the Sun – Lorraine Hansberry

I am reading this classic play for the first time alongside freshmen. I’m a few days ahead and am looking forward to digging into the text with students.

Goodreads

The Soloist: A Lost Dream, an Unlikely Friendship, and the Redemptive Power of Music – Steve Lopez

My second First Chapter Friday selection. This one has me hooked beyond the first chapter.

Goodreads

Finding D.W. – Jason Szwimer

Binge listened to 11 episodes over the course of a long car ride with my wife this past weekend. I felt nostalgic vibes as Szwimer, one of the male voice actors of D.W. on the TV show Arthur, seeks to find the other male voice actors for the character.
